WHO WE ARE

The Silk Art Museum is an experiential museum dedicated to the history and art of silk. Its aim is to present the complete journey of silk—from silkworm breeding to the final silk product— revealing the knowledge, technique, and perseverance required for its production.

Through authentic machinery, historical artifacts, and audiovisual material, visitors can understand how a natural material is transformed into a product of high aesthetic value.

The museum is housed in an imposing neoclassical building dating from 1866, with a distinctive architectural identity that was preserved intact during its renovation and conversion into a museum space in 2008.

Most of the exhibits come from the equipment of the Tsiakiri family, which has been actively involved in silk production since 1954. The creation of the museum was a natural continuation of this journey, with the aim of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Soufli..

Today, Soufli remains the only region in Europe where all stages of silk production are actively preserved — a fact that makes the museum a living repository of culture and knowledge.
